LOS ANGELES, CA -- Michael D. Hirsch, general manager of the Hilton Los Angeles North/Glendale, has been appointed chairman of the Los Angeles County Hotel and Motel Group, a division of the Southern California Business Association. Hirsch was elected on September 5 and succeeds Juan Aquinde, general manager of the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City.

The mission of the Los Angeles County Hotel and Motel Group is to produce and deliver member-responsive products and services that are tailored for the needs of hotel owners/operators as well as the related needs of vendors, suppliers and other organizations serving the lodging industry. The organization also plays a vital role in promoting public awareness.

"I am so delighted to be assuming the chairmanship of such an esteemed organization during a crucial time for LA's hospitality industry," says Hirsch. "I am looking forward to building upon Juan Aquinde and President Les Benson's years of hard work, and leading the hotel association into one of the most service-oriented of its kind. There is no better time than now to create a stronger and more collective voice for LA County's hotel community."

Hirsch, a native of New York City and alumnus of Cornell University, is a 21-year veteran of hotel management and has served in his current position since 1997. During his career with Hilton Hotels Corporation, he has worked at properties in Washington DC, Alexandria, Houston, New York City and Santa Monica. In addition, he holds the prestigious Certified Hotel Administrator designation awarded by the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Lodging Association.

During his tenure at Hilton Los Angeles North/Glendale, Hirsch has been instrumental in establishing endowed scholarships at the Collins School of Hospitality at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and has also assisted the hospitality program at Glendale Community College. Hirsch is a frequent guest lecturer at both institutions as well as a professional mentor. He is also active within the Glendale community and is president-elect of the city's Chamber of Commerce and serves on the board of the Glendale Adventist Medical Center Foundation

Hirsch and his wife, Lisa, reside in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles.
