New Record as RIU builds its biggest establishment in Cádiz, Spain

With more gardens than ever, and in the style of Andalusia, the ClubHotel Riu Chiclana will have 832 rooms

MALLORCA -- RIU Hotels and Resorts (www.riu.com) has begun building the ClubHotel Riu Chiclana in Sancti Petri, Cádiz, Spain, which, with its 832 rooms, will become the biggest establishment in the group.

With its May 2003 opening, the 4-star beach-front Riu Chiclana will feature ample gardens.

Apart from its typical Andalusian look, it will also offer a variety of sports and leisure activities.

This is the eighth RIU establishment in this part of southern Spain, where there are 5 hotels in Málaga and two on the coast of Huelva.

This is also the eleventh ClubHotel in the group, a product which combines the traditional comfort of a hotel with the availability of sports and entertainment of a Club.

Currently, RIU Hotels and Resorts runs 96 establishments in ten countries and employs 12,500 people.

The 700-room ClubHotel Riu Jalisco, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on the point of opening, still holds the record as RIU's biggest establishment. Behind it is the ClubHotel Riu Tequila, also in Mexico, which boasts 664 rooms, and the ClubHotel Riu Gran Canaria, with its 633 rooms.

RIU Hotels was established in 1953 in Playa de Palma, Mallorca, and since the has been involved exclusively in beach holidays.

The group has recently been named by Swiss travel agents 'best chain in the world'.
