LOS ANGELES, CA -- The Los Angeles Convention & Visitors Bureau (LACVB) has announced the appointment of Karla
Kelly as director, regional sales at its Washington, D.C. sales office. In this capacity, she will manage corporate
and association sales activities in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia.
"With nineteen years of industry experience, Karla Kelly will be an invaluable asset to the Bureau,"
said Bill Buckley, executive vice president of sales for the LACVB. "In a short time, Karla has been very
productive, booking 20 meetings for Los Angeles."
Working for the LACVB on an interim basis since February, Karla Kelly has secured several substantial meetings
for Los Angeles, including the Association for Molecular Pathology for 2004 and 2007, the Association for Continuing
Higher Education for 2006, and the American Musicological Society in 2006. Those four meetings alone are projected
to bring more than 7,000 room nights equaling an economic impact of nearly $2.2 million for Los Angeles.
Prior to working for the LACVB, Ms. Kelly spent more than a year as the Director of National Accounts for the Gaylord
(Opryland) Hotels. Her experience includes seven years with NATSO, Inc. where Ms. Kelly served as the Director
of Conventions and Expositions. She worked for the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C. for more than two years,
and for various Hyatt properties for five years.
Ms. Kelly is a member of the American Society of Association Executives, Greater Washington Society of Association
Executives (GWSAE) and Association of Meeting Professionals. She also served as chairperson for both the Association
of Meeting Professionals and for the GWSAE Springtime in the Park Advisory Council.
