Downtown Aquarium Officially Welcomes Sharks to Their New Home at Shark Voyage

Landry's Offers a Sneak Preview of the Soon-to-Be-Unveiled Downtown Aquarium

Press Release: Landry's Restaurants Inc.
December 6, 2002
HOUSTON, TX -- Houston's Downtown Aquarium, slated to open in mid-February, has officially welcomed its first residents. A 40-pound White Tip Shark from the Pacific Ocean and two 75-pound Nurse Sharks from the Caribbean were recently delivered to their new home in the complex's Shark Voyage exhibit. The sharks are only three of many that will live in the new 200,000-gallon Shark Voyage, an attraction accessed by train through an acrylic tunnel, providing visitors an up-close view of the sharks.

A shining example of the depth of Houston's downtown revitalization, the Downtown Aquarium complex will feature more than 200 species of fish, ranging from barracuda in a Gulf of Mexico-themed exhibit to skates and rays in an interactive "touch tank." A perfect activity for families, Downtown Aquarium will add a new dimension to Houston's growing downtown scene, while complementing it's current and steadily climbing dining and entertainment options.

Being developed by Landry's Restaurants Inc. (NYSE: LNY), Downtown Aquarium will be a six-acre public aquarium with more than 500,000 gallons of underwater tanks, two restaurants, a lounge, a ballroom, a gift shop and amusements for the entire family. On dry land at the entertainment complex will be a Ferris wheel, observation tower, carrousel and many midway games, in addition to the Shark Voyage and its gas-powered train, all located throughout the beautifully designed and landscaped property.

Aquarium Restaurant will provide an "underwater dining experience," with seating surrounding a 100,000-gallon floor-to-ceiling aquarium and a bottom- of-the-sea theme carried throughout. The Marina Matinee Cafe will feature a different twist on the traditional by seating patrons in boats docked along the cafe's waterway, while The Dive lounge will offer a posh getaway for relaxation and before-and-after-dinner beverages.

All three sharks have adjusted well and will be joined by friends in the coming weeks. For more information, call 713/223-FISH or visit the website at www.downtownaquarium.com .
