Press Release: Washington Group International, Inc.
August 21, 2002
BOISE, ID -- Washington Group International announced Monday that it has started construction on the WestRock Lake
Cascade resort complex in Idaho where the company serves as construction manager.
Washington Group is managing the activities of four Idaho-based contractors who are engaged in environmental-related
site development, such as wetlands protection, during the 2002 construction season that will last as long as weather
permits.
WestRock Associates LLC awarded the construction-management contract to Washington Group in 1999. Since that time,
Washington Group has assisted WestRock Associates in obtaining required government permits and a lease from the
State of Idaho.
"We are delighted to have a role in one of the premier construction projects in our home state," said
D.L. "Mac" McOmber, vice president -- manufacturing and buildings of Washington Group. "WestRock
will not only be a world-class resort but it will have a much-needed positive impact on the economy of this rural
area in central Idaho."
The resort, located on Lake Cascade, 100 miles north of Boise, is the first year-round destination resort that
features skiing to be developed in the United States in 20 years.
"To see the shaping begin on land that has so much potential to inspire people is exciting to our team,"
said Jean-Pierre Boespflug, chief executive officer of WestRock Associates. "America's next destination resort
is going to be beautiful and offer an experience to our guests that is truly unique."
The resort's primary features will include a luxury hotel, a signature 18-hole golf course designed by Robert Trent
Jones II, a pedestrian village, 60 miles of trails for Nordic skiing, mountain biking, hiking, and other non-motorized
uses, 2,800 vertical feet of skiing and snowboarding terrain, served by a dual-cable gondola and a summit restaurant,
and about 2,000 housing units.
