Statement Regarding American Antitrust Institute Comments On Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Proposed Merger With P&O Princess

Press Release: Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.

MIAMI, FL -- The following quote is provided by Lynn Martenstein, vice president of Corporate Communication for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.:

"We are pleased that the AAI recognized that 'the Royal Caribbean/Princess combination would create a firm equal in size to Carnival ... while the Carnival/Princess combination would create a dominant firm with half the market.' For this reason, we still believe that our merger is pro-competitive and pro-consumer, while Carnival's takeover would result in a dominant position that will harm cruisers, travel agents, and others. Obviously, we are disappointed that the AAI was not more supportive of Royal Caribbean's proposed merger, and that it ignored data we believe demonstrates that the Royal Caribbean/P&O Princess merger would not result in undue concentration. We have cleared all regulatory hurdles in Europe and we will continue to seek similar recognition from the FTC."
